I Will, Because I Am

Betsy Caffrey has been writing since her elementary school years. She is a 60-year-old retiree and woman of faith who lives in Phoenix, Arizona. I will write . . .
   a thousand words,
   in my new-found voice . . .

I will write . . .
   a thousand words,
   in my new-found voice.
I will walk . . .
   the dunes of sorrow,
   not allowing the desert sun,
   to deter me.
I will sail . . .
   with the winds of change,
   never letting
   heart fail.
I will soar as an arrow . . .
   with precision,
   and accuracy,
   and pierce the heart of duality.
I will walk the marshes . . .
    of darkness;
    while singing,
    the song of the nightingale.
I will stand up high . . .
    without harming,
    or hurting,
    or treading upon others.
I will rise . . .
    whenever I fall;
    for my greatest weakness,
    is my greatest strength.
I will age . . .
    with dignity;
    filling my pockets,
    not with gold,
    but with experiences.
I will not wear . . .
    the laurels of wealth;
    but a chain of memories,
    around my neck
    and
    close to my heart.
