"One of our most important goals is to provide you, the parents and educators, with useful, effective, and exciting hands-on tools to help teach history to your children and students." Amy Pak, Co-owner and Artistic Spirit behind Homeschool in the Woods
I am so excited to be a NEW AFFILIATE of Homeschool in the Woodsand the legacy contribution of Amy Pak and the Pak Family to the study of World History, American History, and Western Civilization from a Biblical worldview!
The idea of studying history via a timeline of events impacting events, impacting events, through the lens of fact and Biblical truth was not new to me. After years of studying Principle Approach Education via the Foundation for American Christian Education, I was well acquainted with the power of teaching and learning from a timeline tool to support student comprehension and retention of more than dry dates and names.
Teaching via timelines provides a physical place for the mind to store the drama of history and see the critical connection of the past to the present and ultimately--the future.
I'm not sure how I learned of Homeschool in the Woods over a decade ago, but I know what drew me to this teaching and learning curriculum was the magnificent artwork illustrations of every notable player and scene on the world stage, laboriously crafted with succinct captions for coloring, cutting, and pasting on varied timeline design backgrounds.
I LOVED IT! Blending kinetic, creative art with serious historical study adaptable across all grade levels was genius from the heart of a homeschool mom--the talented Amy Pak.
With a houseful of homeschool students, Amy took her career talents as a graphic designer and invested her gifts into her children's education and the critical subject of studying history--His Story. I felt an immediate kinship with her teaching approach using the Cadillac of Lapbook designs, clever paper crafts, immersive projects, and the creation of a student's record of learning beyond alpha-numeric notes and definitions for study in lined composition books.
With Homeschool in the Woods, students create literal works of art that involve all learning styles for memorable studies and Family Literacy Lifestyle moments through the epochs of history.
Ten years ago, when I spent a couple of years actively mentoring and tutoring homeschool students and families, I purchased a number of these complete study packages in CD format. They are now available for immediate download. Her directions are clear and flexible for incorporating into your own customized studies--as much or as little of the material as needed for grade level.
At the time, I felt I had to reach out to Amy with a personal phone call and did the fan girl thing gushing about how much I loved her work. Then, when my husband and I were vendors with our Literary Journals at the Christian Homeschool Association of Pennsylvania's annual conference, I was delighted to see Homeschool in the Woods represented on the exhibit floor. I met her daughter Haley, working their booth, and another year had a couple of delightful conversations with Jaron, who now does much of the research and writing.
For Amy, Homeschool in the Woods has been an anointed family affair and critical assignment in this transformative moment of world history. I am delighted to be an Affiliate partner to share the wealth of excellence packed into each creative study available at the Homeschool in the Woods website.
Now, more than ever, the study of history must become a greater priority in education. As I have always impressed upon my students--if you don't know where you came from, then you won't know who you are, and will have no direction for where you ought to be going in the future. I think we can all see what dumbing down education, curriculum, and critical thought over the last half century has produced.
Amy Pak and the Pak Family at Homeschool in the Woods are gatekeepers to reverse that course with over 20 years producing award winning history curriculum for all ages.
